UCM would like to offer a special thank you to Reverend Doti Boon, Center for Creative Living, Charter 801, and her amazing staff of volunteers for hosting this year's annual meeting with a conference and Holistic Fair. We would also like to give a special mention to Reverend Corry and her staff at Culinary Creations for some of the best food ever tasted. It is a true gift from the heart that takes lots of volunteers, coordinators and community to facilitate this type of event.

Keynote Speaker: Dave Cortese
Supervisor Dave Cortese was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 2008 and currently serves as the Vice President of the Board. Prior to joining the Board, Cortese served eight years on the San Jose City Council, including two years as Vice Mayor. He grew up in San Jose as part of a family that has been active in civic, cultural and business activities for generations. He is married to Pattie – a community leader in her own right, and has four children. His strong local roots and love for this county fuel his passion for public service.
In 2009 he introduced a resolution in support of House Resolution 676 - the Conyers health care bill - which would have provided the most comprehensive health coverage for the under and uninsured. Last December he traveled with a delegation to Melbourne, Australia, to participate in the World Parliament and present on Santa Clara County's successes in promoting interfaith and intercommunity dialogue.
Most recently, under Dave's leadership, the County of Santa Clara adopted a policy against the incarceration of youth offenders under the age of 13 at JuvenileHall. This is the first such policy in the entire United States and he is hopeful that similar policies will be adopted across the nation. This is just a short of list Dave's work, but it speaks to his passion for stemming the tide of intolerance and inequity in our community.
